“MY CREW’S ALL THINNER”
I been trying to figure this tape out all day. Not quite sure how “rare” these grooves are. My father has most of these tracks either on vinyls or Blue Note reissues; any Afro Beat and Latin Jazz fan will have all of these tracks in their collection.
So the rareness of the rarities are in question. I mean even, Dr. Dre, Melvin “Chaos” Lewis and Swizz Beatz managed to find some of the tracks. And let’s not get started on the Willie Colon’s “Te Conozsco”, at the end–an old track it is, it sounds like the first recording [he sounds mad young], but a rare groove it is not ladies and gentleman. You can find this track performed by any Latin Band approximately 3, 487 times every summer. [It’s the equivalent of playing Before I Let Go at a barbeque].But enough about the validity of the rareness of the grooves.
This tape is a musical journey through all kinds of jazz standards, latin jazz, old school soul, funk and afro beat. Any music lover would enjoy this tape for quality tracks alone. Any hip hop head would enjoy it from some of the memorable performances from 8thW1, Reef and K Gaines.
