Big Twins – The Project Kid

BIG TWINS front insert

We’ve been listening to this album non-stop. Big Twins’ latest project which dropped in late August is a great body of work. The beats the rhymes – it’s a complete album and you will not be disappointed if you copped it

Big Twins – When I Walk Away ft. Alchemist [prod. Alchemist]

It picks up where Prodigy’s collaborative album, Product of the 80′s, left off.  The beats are cold, the stories are real.  It is just an all around hood record.  No neon, no loafers and no Gucci needed.   The usual suspects are featured on this album with cameos from Blaq Mobb, Un Pacino, Strong Arm Steady and of course, Prodigy.  Production on this album is from the best in game right now, with Sid Roams on the majority of the album and DJ Babu, Jake One, Havoc and Alchemist to delivery the best in beats.

You know you hear a good artist when they can flip a beat you’ve heard before and make it sound BRAND NEW!! And not just switch up the words-and re-work the hook, but literally create a new song and mood on the beat. On AduLLessence’, latest mixtape entitled Life in Surround Sound: Takeout Food, Pigeons and Trife — he does just that. Although he’s repping Topeka, this tape comes off VERY East Coast, very asphalt sidewalks, but dont get me wrong, in each song, there is some midwest soul can be found, which I think adds to the overall, feel of the tape.

Lyrically, AduLLessence is a beast, and he flows comfortably on any kind of beat. He shines the most on those soul sample, thumping, horns blaring tracks which allow him to spar with music:

“This is the Layover, airport hangar, 6 hours, with a Hangover”–Evidence

Evidence – Far Left ft. Alchemist and Fashawn [prod. Alchemist]
Best video I’ve seen in awhile, it is reminiscent of Common’s Come Close with out all of the warm, pseudo love associations. Big Ups to the director Punit Dhesi

Still tryin to figure out why this album is called The Layover, besides the title track it really doesn’t go with the album, Encore already did it in 04′ but that’s besides the point. It’s a damn shame that there are still so-called Hip Hop listeners who don’t know nothing about Evidence or Dilated.  I feel sorry for them.  The Layover starts out with a hard, cold sound that continues throughout album.  It’s only 10 tracks deep, but I enjoy short albums as long as every track is bangin’.  This holds true with the Layover.

Decon Presents Fresh Rhymes And Videotape

October 15th, 2008 by

So the title pretty much explains itself.  Decon Records, a label responsible for some of your favorite artists like 88 Keys [can't wait], Dilated Peoples, Alchemist and Aceyalone, has issued a DVD/EP.  What is on the DVD/EP?  Fresh Rhymes and Video Tape, period.  The Fresh Rhymes consist of 6 new tracks from 88 Keys, Aceyalone, Alchemist, Dilated Peoples, etc.  The Video consists of a documentary style short film based on the artists 19 City tour which took place this summer. This is the first of the series so we’ll definitely look out for more as they drop. Normally, I would post a track or 2, but since this is an EP, I’m just shooting ya’ll with the video and it’s audio accompaniment, tell me this track ain’t crazy.
