You know you hear a good artist when they can flip a beat you’ve heard before and make it sound BRAND NEW!! And not just switch up the words-and re-work the hook, but literally create a new song and mood on the beat. On AduLLessence’, latest mixtape entitled Life in Surround Sound: Takeout Food, Pigeons and Trife — he does just that. Although he’s repping Topeka, this tape comes off VERY East Coast, very asphalt sidewalks, but dont get me wrong, in each song, there is some midwest soul can be found, which I think adds to the overall, feel of the tape.

Lyrically, AduLLessence is a beast, and he flows comfortably on any kind of beat. He shines the most on those soul sample, thumping, horns blaring tracks which allow him to spar with music:

3rd Video from Mike Schpitz aka LoveJones debut Album: New World

June 9th, 2009 by The Ovun Staff

Download: LoveJones  [ Mike Schpitz] – New World [prod. Phys Edison]

You don’t understand how much we dig this video right here….Don’t know why but the old archival footage reminds of Reggaeton Latino [don't fron that video was dope]. Somehow the clips go exactly with the track. LoveJones and Phys Edison give you a slightly darker feel on this track and video totally works with it. With the help of The League’s own Tori Boyd it all ties together with the imagery, the production and the lyrics.

ATTN all indie artists, this is how you do it. Concept and follow through.
If you haven’t downloaded this album yet you can pick it up right HERE or soon to be in the side bar, It’s  staple for the summer rotation.

NEW VID AFTER THE JUMP—

LoveJones New Video — Sit On The Moon

March 30th, 2009 by The Ovun Staff

LoveJones (aka Mike Schpitz) – Sit On The Moon [prod. Phys Edison]
Directed by Tori Boyd for Growing Young

Download:  LoveJones (aka Mike Schpitz) – Sit On The Moon [prod. Phys Edison]

The video shows Jones in his ruffled work clothes contemplating what a day off from work might feel like. With some of Chicago’s most original and colorful murals providing the backdrop, Sit on the Moon grabs the viewer’s attention and meshes perfectly with Phys Edison’s soulful instrumental and Jones’ introspective lyrics.

The album, Sunday Drive will be coming at ya’ll really soon, check back for updates.

More Leaked tracks off of SUNDAY DRIVE

LoveJones aka Mike Schiptz – Downtime [prod. Phys Edison]

So 2 more tracks have leaked from LoveJones’ [Mike Schiptz] upcoming album Sunday Drive.  Both tracks as well as the entire album are produced by Phys Edison.  Once again, Jones’ flow is so smooth and fluid over Phys Edison’s melodic beats.  They compliment each other so well.  When it drops in full, this album will officially be getting heavy rotation.

Check out the other track, “Roll Call (Top City)” after the jump

An Introduction to LoveJones aka Mike Schpitz

March 9th, 2009 by The Ovun Staff

If you build it, they will come.  How fitting that these two tracks off of Mike Schpitz aka LoveJones, upcoming album Sunday Drive would make their way into TheOvun’s mailbox.  A good site, with good music, THE SYSTEM WORKS!

LoveJones [aka Mike Schpitz] – The Get Up [prod. Phys Edison]

LoveJones aka Mike Schpitz, the Chicago MC by way of Topeka [Stik Figa watup?],  is honest.  His music is real.  It’s not too contrived, not overly swagtastic (c), not too complicated, and definitely no pretension whatsoever.  You get the feeling that Schiptz actually recorded these tracks for the love of game.  Bragging rights can just be a bonus.  In these times where internet rappers can remain legends in their own mind, it’s nice to hear such a refreshing artist.   Sunday Drive is produced entirely by Phys Edison [Phys Ed]. We’d hate to be the site that says, if you like Artist A, then you’ll like Artist B–but we can say with confidence that if you like NYC’s Outasight [minus the singing], then you’ll definitely dig this dude, [hopes for a collabo]

We will definitely keep you posted of this guy; Sunday Drive is coming at you soon so check back for it here.

To tie you over check out another leaked track off of the album—
