Dub Sonata – Puffin on A Fat Blunt [MP3 frm Nights In Cuba Album]

April 26th, 2011 by

Seldom do Americans get the opportunity to visit the communist Caribbean island of Cuba, but for those who do manage to make their way to the somewhat forbidden hot spot, the journey is often one of great inspiration. Bronx producer, Dub Sonata (Kool G Rap, Rhymefest, Sadat X) was fortunate to visit Cuba last year and the result of his trip was the captivating 19-track NIGHTS IN CUBA. [Tell us how you do it man! - Through Canada riiight?! ]

Dub Sonata -  Puffin’ on a Fat Blunt

Q-Tip – The Renaissance

Q Tip – Move [prod. J Dilla (RIP)]

Download: Q Tip – Move

So apparently I’m just slow.  Last time I checked, in the 7th grade when we was learning history with Mr. Conway and we were taking them bitch ass 50 question, multiple choice tests, the gimme question was definitely, “What Does Renaissance Mean?” and the answers were, A. War, B. Peace, C. Plague and D. Rebirth. Answer to the question, D. Rebirth, for 2 points!

With that being said, Q-Tip’s new album Renaissance, ain’t got shit to do with Rebirth at all.  There’s no “new” sound on some Electric Circus ish.  Matter of fact, It’s the same ole Q-Tip.  Now cool your jets.  I didn’t say this was a bad thing, when it comes the album it’s a good thing. Effin Great.  It’s that Q-Tip/Tribe Sound ya’ll been feenin’ for since forever [1999 to be exact since ya'll slept on Shaheedullah and Stereotypes in 04']. Now if you want to take it on an artistic level, the album is a masterpiece.

Q-Tip – Johnny Is Dead

Produced entirely by Q-Tip [except for J Dilla's Move], there proves an even keel throughout the album, not straying away from smooth mellow beats. The album features guest appearances by talented artists: Norah Jones, Raphael Saadiq and D’Angelo [Where The Fuck is he at!?]The more organic Tribe sound can be found on tracks like “Believe”, “We Fight”, and “Life Is Better”. and the 08′ renditions on “Shaka”, “Official”, and “Won’t Trade”. All i can say is just like his last official release Amplified,  [much respeck to Kamaal the Abstract], he’s come up with another  solid, masterful album.

Paper Planes: The Remixes…EXTRAVAGANZA!*updated

September 17th, 2008 by

So if you don’t know who M.I.A is  don’t worry about it.  If you haven’t ever heard Paper Planes before, you’re wrong, because you have in some capacity.

So, a little background on the song.  Paper Planes is third single off of M.I.A’s second album Kala which was released  over a year ago. To me, the track is certainly not new. Produced by Diplo, it was released as a single in February and since then it has been gaining notoriety to “non-M.I.A.” fans.  Which leaves us with the Paper Planes Remix MEGAPOST EXTRAVAGANZA!!

We’ve Collected around 20 different remixes to compile the the Top 10 list. Please note that blends [Red and Meth version, Lil Wayne and Jody Breeze Version] were not included, because this is about people doing the song based off of the beat alone.

1.    Bun B. and Rich Boy

This remix right here is one of the few, “official official” ones and all I can say is that they both did more than justice to the song.  It gets the number one spot, for both of their deliveries, the lyrics and the overall smoothness, I haven’t heard Bun B go in like this since the “Underground Kingz Album” and Rich Boy spit hard. What can I say, I have a bias for women personifying guns.

2.    Trey Songz

Trey Songz has the wonderful gift of taking popular songs and completely reinterpreting them. With Paper Planes it’s no exception, even the producer/s of the track think that it’s the best version out there.  That means something right?

3.    Esso

Get familiar with this dude, I have a feeling he’s that “next big thing”.  I’ve never heard him on a whack track.  He consistently gives a solid performance and never half asses in the booth.  His version gets the bronze for originality, flow and not just pasting his 16 bars on it. By the way he has a new mix tape out, The Gardens

Big Pooh ft. Joe Scudda and Chaundon- Plastic Cups

When I hear a Jay Dee instrumental, no matter what it is, the only  criticism that I have it that I wish it could play longer cause a 1 minute 30 seconds ain’t enough.  If it were up to me, they’d all be at least 3 min, rapper or no rapper.  Which brings me to “Gobstopper”**, an instrumental off of Donuts which held a special place in my heart. [lol, along with "Time"]   When I first heard it I said, “Gee, I wish there was a song to this”
