DJ..Bab, Bab, Bab, BABU!! Duck Season Vol. 3

October 28th, 2008 by

Say it ain’t so!   Following the underground classics, Duck Season Vol. 1 [2002] and Vol. 2 [2003] , DJ Babu is back with his final volume, Duck Season, Vol. 3.  The difference between this last one and his previous joints is the fact that Vol.3  is produced entirely by Babu himself.  It seems like he took 5 years to perfect his production craft [he did produce tracks for Dilated], to great results!  For those of you who don’t know, the previous Duck Season volumes showcased DJ Babu’s skills as a top tier turntablist and mixer and was produced by others.

So how does Babu do on the boards instead of the tables on an entire album?  Fuckin Great!

DJ Babu -Graveyardshiftin Feat. Cali Agents & Roc Marciano
I’ve always loved Cali Agents and no matter what nobody say to me, they are honorable Brooklyn residents, and LI native Roc Marciano did his thing too. Babu kept the beat simple but complex enough to be a great memorable stand alone track.

The album features guest appearances, from every damn body– Little Brother, Termanology, Bishop Lamont, Guilty Simpson, Percee P, Strong Arm Steady, of course Evidence and Rakaa, and the list goes on and on.  Each emcee brings his own flavor to the album. Production wise, Babu doesn’t stray from Soul and Boom Bap beats that communicate and blend nicely with his signature scratching.

DJ Revolution: King of the Decks Drops Today!!

September 16th, 2008 by

Not too long ago, I was at a Hip and/or Hop concert and between sets, there was a DJ doing his thing.  I can’t recall this dudes name for the life of me but he was getting it in.  Scratching, cutting it up, he was on point.   girl who was standing in front of me whispered to her friends: “I love rap, but I hate it when the DJ messes up the song like that”

BLASPHEMY!!!

Any true head can appreciate the art of the DJ and Turntablism which is one of the seven elements if you really live this.  DJ Revolution’s “King of the Decks” showcases this element at its finest.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Revolution, he’s most known for being a part of the infamous “Wake Up Show”.

Um So Why Cop it? 3 Reasons:

Heltah Skeltah is back on Sept. 30th!

September 15th, 2008 by

Like I have stated previously, this fall is gonna be a good one for Hip Hop. Heltah Skeltah is coming back from a 10 year hiatus! Ruck [Sean Price] and Rock have joined forces again for their 3rd album, “D.I.R.T. [Da Incredible Rap Team].

It’s been 10 years, so what have they been up to? If you’ve been under a rock or locked down, you wouldn’t know that Sean P, has probably made one of the greatest comebacks in indie history with he release of 2005′s Monkey Barz and 2007′s Jesus Price Supastar. In recent months, word on these internet streets  was  that Rock is dealing charges of attempted murder, but that didn’t stop him from releasing the Shell Shock Mixtape.  From what I’ve heard, this new album fails to disappoint with the same ole Heltah Skeltah with 10 years of improvement.  Who could ask for more?
