Skyzoo – Atypical [prod. Illmind] – The Great Debater Mixtape, June 7

May 31st, 2011 by

Call us Skyzoo stans, call us “yes men” -  but you’d have a hard time arguing that pretty much every track Skyzoo makes is doper than most. Of course he drops snoozers from time to time, but nothing is ever completely and utterly whack.

The Great Debater Mixtape is dropping on June 7, and based on previous releases and leaks – you can pretty much grasp the premise is on Skyzoo’s lyrical strengths and his ability to get his point across [much like a debate - gold star!]. Not sure what it will have in store for us but based on the leaks, however, this will definitely get some heavy rotation Summer 11′ and beyond – can’t wait!

So we listened to the whole album. It’s dope and well worth the money, wasn’t expecting the blasts from Madlib [on"Auditorium"] and J Dilla past though. Was definitely surprised to hear “History” marking Black Star’s return on [official] wax. But the question remains— who did it better and being an avid Black Star fan, this is a tough call cause Skyzoo’s track been in rotation for 4 years:

Summertime in the City….

June 3rd, 2009 by

Summertime is almost in full effect here in this great city that never sleeps, and what does that mean? We all retreat from our stuffy post WWII [stop fronting] apartments and go out enjoy what little bit of scenery we got. A New York summer means: scheming on broads, playing dominoes outside of the barbershop, taking walks for the utter sake of taking a walk, being posted up on the block w/o the purpose of pharmaceutical sales– where pretty much everywhere in the city is the perfect spot for people watching, and some of the finest freestyle battling you’ve ever heard..the best place to do this?–THE PARK.

This track has been floating around since the summertime. We tend to gravitate to all things Skyzoo over here, so around that time, Skyzoo also had a track with Emilio Rojas, but Panama Da Spanish Kid won the rotation battle in our Mp3s. Over the past couple of years you have to respect this dude’s grind as an actor [if you recognize the face, it's prolly cause you watched Season 4 of  The Wire], and fashion line co-owner [Bmore Creative] and he seems to be making some real noise as a rapper. From what few tracks we heard, he can definitely hold his own, but we’re anxious to see what he brings when his mixtape, Ring Side Seats: The Weigh, drops.

We’ll keep ya’ll posted.
